Job – A Descendant of Shem

July 30, 2025

This book declareth the ancient life of Job, a man of the land of Uz, blameless and upright, one that feared God and eschewed evil. Though his genealogy is not set forth, the treatise proveth by many witnesses that Job was a descendant of Shem, dwelling in the wide country stretching from Mesopotamia unto Edom. In days when the law was not yet given, neither covenant people called by name, Job worshipped El Shaddai as priest of his house, offering sacrifices and living with great integrity and compassion. His days were long, his wealth abundant in cattle, and his wisdom renowned among the children of the east. Though surrounded by men from the line of Esau, Job walked not after their pride, but in humility, seeking God and holding fast his faith even amidst great trial and affliction. The book thus showeth forth the faith, suffering, and hope in resurrection of Job, prefiguring Christ Himself, and testifying that the fear of the Lord endureth in every generation.
